Description for MITS_productsImageFilenames - Optimised Filenames for Product and Category Images
Better SEO for your images: the modified eCommerce image filename module
Want your product images to have a positive impact on your shop's ranking? Our class extension module for modified eCommerce Shopsoftware 2.x/3.x gives you full control over your image filenames. Easily optimise them for search engines and increase visibility!
Free: the module is available free of charge and adds practical SEO and performance functions to your shop.
This module is the perfect solution for shop operators who value a clean, search engine friendly structure. Instead of cryptic filenames such as "IMG_1234.jpg", you can customise image names to include keywords from your product name. This helps Google and other search engines understand and index your images, and therefore your products, more effectively.
How image filename optimisation works
After installing the module, you can decide in the admin area how image filenames should be generated. The following options are available:
- Product names as filenames: use the product name as the filename for your images. The module uses the shop's internal
seo_url_href_maskfunction to sanitise the name for search engines, for examplesuper-duper-shirt.jpg. This ensures a consistent SEO structure throughout your shop. - Keep the original filename: retain the original filename after uploading.
Additional functions for greater control
The module offers further useful settings:
- Products ID and image number: when retaining the original filename, you can optionally include
products_idand/or the image number in the filename, for exampleartikel-123_bild-1.jpg. This helps you keep track even when you have many images. - Force lowercase: the module can force lowercase file extensions, for example from
.JPGto.jpg. This prevents problems on case-sensitive servers and ensures a consistent, professional file structure.
New from version 1.4.0: store image dimensions in the database
Since version 1.4.0, the module can also store the dimensions of main product images and category images in the database. This data can then be used by our MITS_ImageSize module to make image dimensions available directly in the template.
This allows image width and height to be taken into account as the page loads. It reduces layout shifts and can contribute to a better PageSpeed score and optimised frontend display.
Perfect integration into your modified eCommerce Shopsoftware
This class extension module was developed specifically for modified eCommerce Shopsoftware 2.x/3.x. It fits seamlessly into your system and integrates without core changes. Configuration is handled conveniently through the admin area.
Optimise your images now for better search engine rankings, greater technical control and even better shop performance – free and easy to integrate.
